Participation statistics

Using Forums, you can view statistics for individual course participants and forum topics. You can also see the full text of all posts by a particular participant.

Statistics by participant

To view statistics for site participants:

1. In your site's menubar, click Forums, and then click Statistics & Grading. You'll see the participant list followed by columns showing the statistics by user, namely, "Authored", "Read", "Unread", and "Percent Read".

   Note: To sort by a particular column, click the column heading.

2. Click a participant's name to see the following individual statistics:
   
   
   • Messages Authored: Lists the titles of the forums and topics of all posts authored by the participant, the date and time they were created, the subject and the word count
   • Messages Read: Lists the titles of the forums and topics of all posts read, the date and time they were read, and the subject
   
   
3. To review the content of all of a particular participant's posts at once, from the list of messages authored, click Show Full Text for All Authored Messages.

   You can also grade the post and see an individual posting in context by clicking [display in conversation].

   To go to the next or previous participant, click the appropriate button above the text of the authored messages.

4. Click Forums to return to the Forums page.

Statistics by topic

To view statistics for each forum topic:

1. In your site's menubar, click Forums, and then click Statistics & Grading.
   
   
2. Click Statistics & Grading by Topic, which lists the forums with columns labeled "Topic Title", "Date", and "Total Messages".

   Note: To sort by a particular column, click the column heading.

3. Click a forum or topic title to see more detailed information. You'll see a list of participants who have contributed to the forum or topic, followed by columns labeled "Authored", "Read", "Unread", and "Percent Read". To see the individual statistics for a participant (as described above), click Details. To grade a participant, click Grade, and select a gradebook item. 4. Click Forums to return to the Forums page.
